Job Description

Social Worker - PKC09672
£40,243 - £42,946
HMP Castle Huntly, Longforgan

The post is based in HM Prison Castle Huntly Social Work Department.  HMP Castle Huntly is Scotland's only 'open' prison.

We are a small, busy team comprising qualified Social Workers and business support.

Our role is to provide a quality social work service to serving prisoners.  A significant element of our role within the prison is to assess and manage potential risks individuals may pose as they re-enter the community.  We do this by way of providing reports to the Parole Board and Tribunals, we also attend in person to speak to our risk assessments.  We contribute to multi agency risk management in the prison and in the community through risk management case conferences and MAPPA meetings.  We work in partnership with the Scottish Prison Service and community social work agencies to support and manage all statutory offenders.

The Individual

The successful candidate will be highly motivated to deliver a quality social work service in partnership with the Scottish Prison Service.

You will have relevant experience in criminal justice social work and an understanding of risk management including the use of relevant tools, i.e. LS/CMI, RM2000, SA07, RoSH and SARAv3 would be desirable.  You should also have a good understanding of the legislative framework and changes around justice social work and an ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with other statutory and third sector organisations both internal and external to the prison environment.

You must have good communication and negotiation skills as well as an awareness of the complexities of the context within which they will be working.   Integral to this is an understanding of both the potential opportunities, rewards and challenges a prison setting will present for the client group, staff and service delivery.

You will have a Social Work Qualification (DIPSW, CQSW, CSS), current registration with SSSC and be responsible for maintaining annual membership.
