Supply Pupil Support Assistants - PKC10151
£11.70 per hour
Various Locations Throughout the Perth & Kinross Council Area

As a Pupil Support Assistant (PSA), you will work as part of a team supporting children and young people who have additional support needs to access learning under the direction of other members of the team.

Children and Young People can have a range of needs that are short lived or more long term.  These at different points in their education may require additional support.  The PSA role is varied and may include supporting children and young people who present with needs which may include:

  • Social and Emotional
  • Learning
  • Communication
  • Physical
  • Personal Care

Some children may present with distressed and challenging behaviour as a result of these needs The PSA may have a role in supporting positive behaviour management programmes and individual support plans. 

You will be working in a variety of settings as some work may be nursery or school based whilst other supports may involve activities in the community e.g. horse riding  or outdoor learning. As part of the school team you will support lunchtimes and playtimes.

We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate:

  • A genuine interest in the development of children and their wellbeing
  • Kindness, Empathy, patience and an ability to engage with children and young people.
  • Confidentiality in relation to children, young people and their families
  • Experience (paid/voluntary) of supporting children and young people with additional support needs.

Flexibility is required as casual work may require candidates to work in different locations across Perth and Kinross Council and across different sector (nursery, primary, secondary and specialist) although successful candidates will be asked preference in relation to location and sector at interview. A car user would useful but not essential.

Please note, if candidates wish to work in a Early Learning and Childcare setting you will be required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). If a qualification is required support may be available to access further training.
