The role of the career grade Trainee Architectural Technician within Property Services at PKC is an excellent opportunity for someone in the early stages of their Architectural career who wishes to be part of a dynamic and integrated team, drawing together all key elements of construction project delivery, providing full design, implementation and project management services to all Council departments and a range of external agencies.

You will be welcomed into the Project Delivery team of Property Services, to work with an established and knowledgeable group of experienced Architects, Architectural Technicians and Clerk of Works, in collaboration with other in-house professionals including Quantity Surveyors, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers to take projects from the early briefing stage, through design, onto construction and hand over.

Property Services is involved in a wide range of projects, large and small, including Passivhaus new build schools and refurbishments, extensions, and upgrades of our existing estate.  The Project Delivery Team are an integral part of the Council’s drive to net zero through the projects we deliver and the guidance we provide to our colleagues and stakeholders.  You will have access to learning about sustainable construction through this interface and, through experience, there will be opportunity for you to influence the sustainable future of our Local Authority.

This is a rare opportunity to apply every aspect of learning from an Architectural Technology course in an environment where support and mentoring is provided through live project experience.  This will enable you to develop the skills, knowledge and experience to move forward in your career, and within the organisation, by way of the career progression route on offer as part of this post.

It is required that to progress through the career post offered here, you will complete an HND Certificate in Architectural / Building Technology while working with us (if you do not already hold this qualification or above).  A valid UK driving licence is also required to progress through the career post.

The Project Delivery Team have an office base in the centre of Perth, which we share with our Property Services colleagues.  This is a vibrant, friendly, well occupied space which will offer a Trainee valuable insight into the wide range of work undertaken within Property Services.  Our offices have been recently upgraded to offer a variety of work settings for differing individual and team tasks.  Staff can work in a hybrid manner from a variety of locations, with most selecting to work from our offices at least 2 days a week.  We encourage new, less experienced staff to make the office their predominant work base to fully exploit the learning opportunities on offer.

For purposes of connection and collaboration with colleagues and with the community we serve, our full-time employees work on site for a minimum of 2 days per week with the arrangements for part time employees being agreed on a basis which will ensure that they benefit to an equivalent degree.
