Local authorities must plan for and respond to situations which could disrupt the delivery of vital public services. We need to be prepared, be resilient and be capable of dealing effectively with any situations which arise.
Our joint Civil Contingencies Service (CCS) is the first of its kind in Scotland, providing services on behalf of East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde, West Dunbartonshire and Renfrewshire councils.
As an Assistant Civil Contingencies Officer, you will be involved in the development and delivery of statutory civil contingencies and resilience arrangements across and within four local authorities. You will provide support to the service, assisting in the delivery of training and exercise events, conducting research, and writing reports on a number of key areas including building community resilience, improving incident management arrangements and standard operating procedures.
You will be expected to liaise with other local authorities; key emergency responders including the Police, the Fire and Rescue Service and health authorities as well as specialist multi-agency bodies such as the West of Scotland Regional Resilience Partnership.
It is essential that you have the ability to:
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the principles of risk assessment
- Deliver to demanding deadlines
- Demonstrate effective self organisational skills
- Have experience in research, data handling, analysis and presentation of findings.
It is desirable that you also have a genuine interest in supporting local communities and businesses, looking to promote a holistic approach to resilience across the whole area.
