Waste and Recycling Manager
Renfrewshire Council is seeking to recruit an experienced Waste and Recycling Manager.
Reporting to the Operations Manager within Environment, Housing, and Infrastructure, you will make a major contribution to continually improving service development and delivery. You will lead on the ongoing development and delivery of the Council’s waste management responsibilities, including (but not limited to):
Statutory compliance, development and implementation of strategies; delivery of recycling and waste management functions and use of research and innovation to optimise efficiency and effectiveness of the service.
In addition to these core functions, you will play a major role in the Council’s Sustainability and Net Zero ambitions. You will perform a lead role in ensuring the council is fully conversant with the wider national/international recycling agenda and will lead the development of relationships with key external partners.
This strategic position is critical for driving improvement of the council’s recycling and waste services as well as the continuous improvement and development of the service. Supporting the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the direct management and delivery of the Council’s refuse services and waste strategy and disposal services.
You will have a lead role in overseeing a variety of complex functions and budgets covering a very broad range of topics, including (but not limited to): ongoing development and delivery of the Resource and Recycling Strategy, ongoing development and delivery of waste management and recycling function, Development of workforce to support priorities of the service, Development of collaborative and supportive culture, ongoing development and delivery of the Council’s obligations in relation to statutory compliance, management of the Household Recycling Centres, management of Household Materials Collection, management of Commercial Waste and Bulk Operations.
You will have responsibility for closed landfill site (Linwood moss) Delivery and management of Clyde Valley Residual Waste Contract.
It is essential that you possess a relevant degree or professional qualification or evidence of professional competence and skill. You will have evidence of continuing, relevant and professional development. You will have experience of waste services within a large and diverse organisation as well as the ability to operate throughout the organisation and can demonstrate effective influencing skills in order to deliver business objectives. Furthermore you will have a proven track record in financial management and delivering policy and strategy at senior management level.
A Driving Licence is essential.
