Role Purpose

We have an exciting opportunity for an officer to join our Food, Health and Safety team. You will carry out the day-to-day functions and duties of the team ensuring that businesses within the Borders comply with food law and health and safety legislation.
As an excellent communicator, you will have the skills and ability to communicate with business owners and their staff, members of the public, other agencies, Councillors and other council officers at all levels. You will need a pragmatic “can do” attitude and be empathetic and supportive but also demonstrate a robust approach to enforcement when required.

You will be committed to providing excellent customer service and be able to deal with challenging situations calmly and effectively to achieve positive outcomes.
With thriving fish establishments exporting to EU and non-EU countries experience of dealing with Export Health Certificates would be an advantage but not essential.
Travel across the Borders will be required and pool cars are available.
The Borders is an area of outstanding beauty with many outdoor activities such as hiking, golf, fishing and mountain biking. Edinburgh is only an hour or so away, there is a rail link between Galashiels and Edinburgh and Edinburgh Airport and Newcastle Airport are both within easy reach.
