*As of 1st April 2023, all Modern Apprentices will be paid according to the Scottish Real Living Wage of £10.90 per hour.

Interviews will be held over 3 days at Scottish Borders Council HQ, Newtown st Boswells  on 14, 15 & 16 June 2023.

Role Purpose

Modern Apprenticeships (MA) offer new entrants to the labour market the chance of paid employment combined with the opportunity to undertake training relevant to a particular occupational area. They include the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications that help kick-start a career without having to study full-time.

As this is a Modern Apprentice post the job holder will be required to work in various areas / early learning and childcare settings throughout the organisation to develop skills, knowledge and experience in all aspects of an Early Learning and Childcare Practitioner. This will be via on the job training based in Scottish Borders schools and formal training sessions to develop knowledge and understanding of the occupational area.

As part of the apprenticeship programme you will be required to engage with a training provider, Borders College to obtain the desired qualification of an SVQ level 3 Social Services (Children and Young People) and have regular meetings with the supervisor and / or assessor. The Modern Apprenticeship - Early Years Practitioner role offers the chance of paid employment combined with the opportunity to undertake an SCQF 7 Social Services (Children and Young People) qualification that helps kick-start a career without having to study full-time. There will be multiple posts. The locations of these posts are still to be confirmed.

Successful candidates will be based in a school nursery but on occasions you may be asked to undertake tasks in different locations that are beneficial to your experience, development and training.

Essential

A good standard of general education including literacy to at least SCQF 5 (Nat 5) and numeracy to at least SCQF 5 (Nat 5) or equivalent as a minimum.

Strong ICT skills

The applicant must evidence their ability to achieve a SCQF 7 Social Services (Children and Young People) within the period of the MA contract. This is a requirement of this post.

All successful applicants for early learning and childcare posts will be required to be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 6 months of appointment and maintain registration throughout the period of employment
