Are you a self-motivated individual with a non-judgemental outlook? Do you have a high level of professional integrity and excellent communication skills, with a drive to support children and young people?

We have an exciting opportunity for a School Counsellor to join our Inclusion Service team within Children's Services.

As the successful candidate, you will be required to work closely with school staff and key contacts within the Council, to deliver a safe, effective and professional evidence-based School Counselling Service to children and young people. You will provide this service in accordance with current legislation, and Council policies and procedures, in a variety of school settings across Shetland.

You will demonstrate a commitment to quality service delivery, through continuous improvement and adherence with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapies (BACP) Ethical Framework, CYP Competences and Good Practice Guidelines.

We aim to help children and young people develop the resources necessary to navigate through a range of difficult and complex experiences. In doing so, you will work from within the Person Centered Ethos and have an ability to develop relationships with children and young people and to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Salary shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £2,742 per annum
  • Permanent Full Time post for 37.0 Hours per Week , 52.18 weeks per year
  • Main working hours will be 9 - 5, Monday - Friday. The service is open during school holiday periods.
  • Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to a formal offer of employment being made
  • You must have a full UK Driving Licence and the ability to travel throughout Shetland at short notice and where public transport is limited
  • We are happy to talk flexible working
