If so, the Shetland Islands Council is offering an exciting opportunity to work at excellently resourced Sandwick Junior High School

The main duties of a teacher are outlined in Part 2: Section 2 of the SNCT Handbook. Subject to the policies and practice of the school and Shetland Islands Council, the duties of teachers are to:

(a) manage and organise classes through planning and preparingfor teaching and learning.

(b) assess, record and report on the work of pupils’ progress to inform arange of teaching and learning approaches.

(c) prepare pupils for examinations and where required, assist with their administration.

(d)contribute towards good order and the wider needs of the school.

(e) develop the school curriculum.

(f) contribute to the school and council planning and improvement processes.

(g) maintain and develop knowledge and skills and contribute to the professional development of colleagues including probationary and student teachers.

There is a requirement to be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) and to and to participate in the Scheme of Professional Update.

Sandwick Junior High School is a non-denominational school located in Sandwick. It provides early years, primary and secondary education up to S4 for children from Sandwick and the surrounding area for primary and the whole South Mainland for secondary. The structure of the school is early years with extended hours, 5 primary classes and secondary 1-4 classes. There is currently a total of 250pupils on the roll. Scalloway Primary School is a non-denominational school located in Scalloway.  It provides Primary Education from P1 to P7 and Early Years and Childcare for 3 and 4 year olds.  The school’s catchment area includes Scalloway, Trondra and the 9 Valley. Currently we have one large Early Years class and 7 straight stages in primary.  There is currently a total of 185 pupils on the school and EY roll. The school is managed by a Head Teacher. The current staffing complement is 9 class teachers (2 job-shares), specialist teachers in Art, Music and PE.  Class teachers are assisted by support staff as required to meet school demands and the needs of the pupils.   • The salary shown in the advert is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance of £1.4571 per hour
  • Permanent Term Time Full Time post for 35.0 Hours per Week , 39 weeks per year, plus 8 weeks (pro rata) paid holiday to be taken during school holiday.
  • Preferred candidates will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update prior to a formal offer of employment being made
