Job Description

The Service is seeking to appoint a Trainee Trading Standards Officer.

The successful applicant should have a minimum of three highers, and national 5 (or equivalent) in Maths and English.

Ideally the applicant will be educated to degree level, the degree being in a law or science based subject.

The applicant will be required to complete and pass the Chartered Trading Standards Institute professional exams.

The applicant will assist and support the Trading Standards Services staff in the various areas of work including inspections, complaints, service requests and investigations whilst undertaking the Trading Standards Practitioner Certificate (TSPC) qualification. On gaining the TSPC the applicant will be authorised to carryout appropriate enforcement duties under the legislation enforced by Trading Standards Service (salary will be adjusted accordingly) whilst continuing to train and gain the Trading Standards Practitioner Diploma (TSPD)

Applicants should have excellent communication skills and be motivated to make a difference for consumers and businesses. You will also have excellent organisational skills and good IT skills.

You should be able to demonstrate that you can manage a workload being able to prioritise and organise.

It is desirable that you have experience of working with the general public, report writing and of providing effective presentations.
