Job Description

South Lanarkshire Council are seeking to appoint an Environmental Health Officer within our Public Health & Housing section.
The successful candidate will be part of a geographical team covering a wide range of environmental health functions in diverse urban and rural settings. The main duties of the post including noise investigation, pollution control, responding to statutory planning consultations, investigation of public health complaints/statutory nuisance, housing disrepair/licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation, animal welfare licensing and the assessment/regulation of private water supplies. The successful candidate may be required to work outwith normal office hours, when necessary, to undertake investigations and/or monitor compliance.
This is a permanent post. Environmental Services has its operational base in Hamilton but operates a hybrid working arrangement. 

You must have a sound knowledge of public health legislation, animal welfare licensing and private water supplies regulation. In addition, you must have the ability to work to specific deadlines and possess excellent communication and IT skills. It is desirable that applicants hold the REHIS Diploma in Environmental Health, or its equivalent. Applications would be welcome from recently qualified Environmental Health Officers and consideration will be given to applications from graduates with BSc or MSc in Environmental Health who are looking to undertake the REHIS Diploma programme and applicants who have suitable qualifications to secure accelerate entry to the second year of the UWS BSc environmental Health with Professional Practice degree course.
