Job Description

South Lanarkshire Council Environmental Services are looking to recruit a Technical Officer to work within the Environmental Night Time team, working within a relatively small team you will help the Council deliver primarily on its obligations in terms of Anti- Social Behaviour (ASB) Noise but also other Environmental Health related aspects. These will including but are not limited to Public Health, Housing and Environmental Crime issues.

The Night Time service operates 361 days a year, there are two teams, each working 4 on 4 off shift pattern, 10 hours each shift from 16:30 - 03:00. Public Holidays are worked. Annual Holidays are taken to cover Christmas Eve (24th Dec) & Christmas Day shifts (25th Dec). Hogmanay (31st Dec) & New Year’s Day (1st Jan) shifts when there is No Service. These working patterns are required to provide cover to meet the Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Noise Resolution. 4 Additional increments are added to the normal Technical Officers pay (Grade 3 Level 2 (2019 plus 4 Unsocial Hours Increments SCP 72 – 74 Salary Range £40,275 - £41,115)

As the post holder requires to be available to work across the district i.e. to make visits to residential and commercial properties etc., including locations not covered by public transport at times when there is no public transport (Night Shift operates up to and beyond 03:00), a driving licence is essential. Do you have a full valid driving licence?

It would be desirable for the post holder to have already obtained either or both the Institute of Acoustics (IoA)/Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) accredited ASB Noise Measurement Qualification (3 day Cert) and/or the IoA/REHIS accredited Certificate of Competency in Environmental Noise Measurement (CCENM – 5 day Cert) or an equivalent or higher acoustics qualification.
Do you hold either, both or a higher equivalent acoustics qualifications? If not, it will be essential that you commit to undertaking the training to obtain these qualification which the Council will pay for and assist in your successful completion.

This is an enforcement role delivering criminal and civil legislation in a local government position. Have you any experience of working in an enforcement role? It would be beneficial to demonstrate your familiarity with criminal procedures, court proceedings and or an understanding or previous involvement.
The post work shifts in a small team (4 staff Max), have you worked shifts before, please expand on any experience you may have of working shift patterns and or within a small team.
