West Dunbartonshire Council is committed to ensuring and demonstrating good governance and has established an Audit Committee with a remit based on the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy’s Audit Committees: Practical Guidance for Local Authorities and Police.
The role of the Lay Member of the Committee will be to independently assist the Committee to discharge its roles effectively by providing advice and scrutiny on matters relating to the Council’s arrangements for risk management, governance and control. Lay Members receive no payment for this public duty, but travel expenses are paid, and are expected to attend a minimum of three committee meetings per year and the meetings alternate between Dumbarton and Clydebank.
