The Computing Team at Edinburgh College are looking to recruit a computing lecturer with a skill set in Software Development or Games Development.

The role is to begin on or near the 15 August 2022 and lecturing will be carried out in Castle Brae High School. It is a part-time role of 9.1 contractual hours (6 contact hours) a week on Tuesdays.

The ideal candidate will be able to guide students through building games using Scratch (program from MIT) and be able to take students through basic beginner programming in in a language such as Python. An ability to build basic websites and teach Microsoft office applications is also useful. However, candidates with some but not all these skills will be considered.

The role covers teaching a range of students from S4 to S6 who are beginners in computer programming, the S6 Pupils will be taught the National Progression award in Games Development at SCQF level 5. We have a successful partnership of three years delivering to young people at CastleBrae High school and the Pupils move on to join the college courses.

We are looking for someone with good interpersonal skills, with energy to enthuse young people about learning coding, someone who is patient and student focused, has a supportive manner and the ability to communicate effectively with staff and students at all levels

Working knowledge of SQA and experience of working in FE is desirable. A degree level qualification is essential.

We welcome applications from people who have not been a lecturer before such as new graduates from a relevant computing degree.

As the need for students gaining tech jobs increases, our department is in growth and so opportunities to gain more teaching on our college based Further and Higher Education courses is likely in the future, as well as possibilities to work in other schools.
