An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Learning Technologist to join the School of Health and Life Sciences at Glasgow Caledonian University.

Glasgow Caledonian University – the largest and leading modern university in Scotland - is a vibrant, values-led university with campuses in the heart of Glasgow and London. With a strong commitment to high quality education, which supports the communities we serve, we have strong partnerships with employers to ensure our students get the careers they dream of and deserve.

Named UK Modern University of the Year for Graduate Jobs in the latest Daily Mail University Guide, and the top-ranked UK modern university in the Times and Sunday Times Guide 2026, we are a UK top 40 university according to these highly regarded guides. We are the only Scottish university with EcoCampus Platinum accreditation and were ranked first in Scotland for sustainability in the most recent People and Planet league table (2024).

The School of Health and Life Sciences is one of the largest providers of health and life science education in Scotland. We offer programmes in the allied health professions (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, diagnostic imaging, podiatry, radiotherapy and oncology, human nutrition and dietetics, and paramedic science), and in nursing, community and public health, biological and biomedical sciences, psychology, social work and vision sciences. The school is looking to appoint a highly motivated Learning Technologist to support our programme delivery and contribute to growth in digital learning and the use of learning technologies.

A significant element of this role will be providing professional and practical support to academic staff in the application and use of our Virtual Learning Environment, meaning that a good working knowledge of Blackboard (or similar VLE) is essential. There will be a requirement to design and deliver staff training and support resources for our academic and professional staff. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to growth in online, blended and hybrid learning to support the continued diversification of our academic portfolio.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed individual who demonstrates the skills to work supportively and collaboratively with colleagues across the school, and the university. The person will have excellent communication skills, strong organisational skills and an ability to effectively prioritise workload. The successful candidate will hold a degree and/or post graduate or professional qualification (or equivalent professional experience) in Learning Technology, Computing or related discipline and must be able to demonstrate an ability to use a range of ICT devices, applications, software and digital capture devices.  Experience or knowledge of Further/Higher Education systems is desirable.

If you would like to discuss the role please contact Professor Kerri McPherson, Associate Dean, Learning, Teaching and Quality at kerri.mcpherson@gcu.ac.uk.
