An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Post-Doctoral Researcher to join our interdisciplinary team at Glasgow Caledonian University and contribute to our Mission Orientated research on “Nature-Based solutions for climate and health”. Our mission is to co-create sustainable and socially innovative Nature-based solutions to increase resilience of urban communities where health, social, and climate change vulnerability cluster. The successful candidate will work closely with the School of Health Data Science for Common Good Research Group and the School of Engineering, Computing and the Build Environment Center for Build Environment and Asset Management and Yunus Centre for Social Business to develop this mission.

The Researcher will join a multidisciplinary team of experts in public health, environmental sciences data sciences, and social innovation focused on finding systemic solutions informed by data and evidence and co-created with stakeholders for Nature-Based Solutions.

Such solutions bring more, and more diverse, nature and natural features and processes into cities, landscapes, and seascapes through locally adapted, resource-efficient, and systemic interventions” (European Commission 2015)”

We need somebody capable of seeing the big picture but with excellent attention to detail and ready to tackle complex problems involving health, climate change, health inequalities and sustainability. We are looking for an individual passionate about multidisciplinary research.   The post-doctoral researcher will be expected to contribute and drive growth in Nature-Based Solutions. The main role of the post-doctoral research will be to

  • Develop, conduct and publish research in line with the mission.
  • Identify funding opportunities and develop funding bids.
  • Work closely with the lead researchers to coordinate the mission.
  • Engage and maintain liaison with key stakeholders, including maintaining a database.
  • Organise working and co-creation events.
  • Track the impact of the research.

Yunus Centre for Social Business and Microfinance at GCU conducts world-leading research to conceptualise and evidence ways that lives of individuals and communities can be improved through a better understanding of various community-based and health-focused initiatives. The work undertaken addresses multiple Sustainable Development Goals and the Centre is renowned for its multi-disciplinary and social science-based research.

The researcher will join the Data for Common Good research group which is a multi-disciplinary team across the University. The group aims to develop Data Science for social impact and social innovation. 

We are seeking a Researcher who holds a DPhil/PhD in environmental science, health research, social sciences, computer sciences or related fields such as human geography, sustainability (or nearing completion of a PhD).  The candidate should demonstrate

  • Scientific publication record.
  • Track record in developing funding applications.
  • Excellent organisational and project managerial skills.
  • Effective communication capacity.
  • Ability to work quickly in a highly methodical way, paying attention to detail and ensuring accuracy.
  • Proven track record in working in a highly collaborative way.
  • Ideally experienced with data science and writing code in R and/or python.
  • Ideally able to take responsibility for developing, independently plan and manage a research project
  • Experience in economics and cost-effectiveness analysis would be a bonus.
  • Experience in dealing with Natural Experiments would be a bonus.
