Our case studies offer an insight into how we are making breakthroughs with some of today's challenges to ensure healthy lives for all.We are addressing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) via three societal challenges of Inclusive Societies, Healthy Lives and Sustainable Environments.

Several Research Centres have been established as part of the drive to promote multi-disciplinary research and collaboration across Schools, challenges and themes.

Healthy lives is the largest area of research at GCU and although the research groups within the Research Centre for Health (ReaCH) are based at the School of Health and Life Sciences, they also draw on major research being conducted in other schools and the Yunus Centre for Social Business and Health.‌

The purpose of this role is to support the delivery of the project, “FaME Ireland - Falls Management Exercise Programme: Improving Reach, Effectiveness, VaLue and SustAiNability in IrelanD. Case Studies for Learning”. This is a Applied Partnership Award from the Health Research Board in Ireland, in collaboration with the Principle Investigator Dr Ruth McCullagh at the University of Cork.

Our primary aims over the length of the project are to (1) DEFINE current service provision and practice of FaME (Falls Management Exercise) across Ireland, along with a deeper analysis of service provision in 3 early adopter sites (Dublin, Kerry and Leitrim), (2) to co-DESIGN adaptations and service improvement ideas with key stakeholders, and then (3) to DELIVER the service with the changes in place, and re-evaluate service delivery.  

Roles and Responsibilities: The postholder will be involved in thematic analysis of the interviews and focus groups, involvement in surveys and collation of resources and data to update an existing FaME Implementation Toolkit to meet the Irish healthcare context.

The postholder will work under the direction of Professor Dawn Skelton to facilitate the timely completion of the work.

 The postholder will coordinate and perform a variety of independent and team activities involved in the collection, analysis, documentation and some interpretation of information/results from the roll out and implementation of FaME (Falls Management Exercise). They will be in charge of updating the current FaME Implementation Toolkit with new knowledge and resources applicable to the new context/setting and preparing technical reports including conclusions and recommendations. They will be expected to be an active member of the Ageing Well Research Group and the and Research Centre for Health (ReaCH) and contribute to the research environment, through discussions with peers, lectures and events, online activities and seminars.

The applicant must have a first degree and PhD in Physiotherapy or relevant subject area relating to applied health research, very good working knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodology including approaches to conducting stakeholder events, strong IT skill, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to listen and engage, and to present complex information in an accessible way to a range of audiences. They must demonstrate the ability to effectively collaborate and network internally and externally with peers, stakeholders and / or external partners and demonstrate leadership and work on own initiative and effectively manage own research and administrative activities. It is desirable for the applicant to have experience of working with implementation toolkits / intervention manuals.
