Glasgow Colleges’ Regional Board is recruiting two assigned college chairs to help shape the future of education in Scotland’s largest college region.

The Glasgow college region focuses on successful outcomes for our city’s learners, staff and colleges: City of Glasgow College, Glasgow Clyde College and Glasgow Kelvin College. Working in partnership with employers, business, industry and education partners, the Glasgow college region helps people build careers, develop ambitions and strengthen the wider community and economy.

The Chair of City of Glasgow College and Chair of Glasgow Clyde College will provide leadership to their Board of Management and ensure that their Board governs effectively. They will work collaboratively with colleagues in the region to lead their respective College through a period of reform.

Person specification

You will be a strong, strategic and decisive leader, who will prioritise collaborative working. Demonstrating experience of co-operating effectively with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders, you will build effective networks and advance shared goals.

You will have led a programme of change in a complex environment and bring the ability to constructively challenge and scrutinise, along with a solid understanding of financial, risk and performance management. You will be a highly effective communicator, equally able to articulate complex matters, inspire others and listen to their views.

Significant experience as a non-executive board member is essential, demonstrating a strong understanding of corporate governance, collective responsibility and accountability in a complex environment, to ensure strategic objectives are met. The Chair of each college Board of Management will play a pivotal role, shaping support for learners, our ambitious plans for the Glasgow college region, and the future direction of the education landscape.

City of Glasgow College

City of Glasgow College is Scotland’s largest professional and technological education and skills college – and the third largest in the UK. The College’s multi award-winning, twin-site campus in the heart of Glasgow offers outstanding resources and opportunities for students to gain essential skills and nationally and internationally recognised qualifications. Since the multi-college merger in 2010, the College has thrived by working in a symbiotic partnership with employers, business, industry and education partners to build a curriculum of over 1,000 flexible-study courses across four faculties. Additional information for candidates

Assigned College Chairs spend approximately 1-2 days per week exercising the duties and responsibilities of their role. This includes college Board and Committee meetings and membership of Glasgow Colleges’ Regional Board, as well as regional and sectoral meetings and engagement in development sessions.

At present the post is unremunerated however the Scottish Government has indicated that remuneration will be introduced at a future date for assigned college chair roles. Reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.
