Glasgow Kelvin College is the key provider of accessible vocational and core-skills learning in the north and east of the city. We deliver high-quality introductory to degree-level programmes to around 15,000 students each year from four campus buildings and through a large network of community-based centres. Engaging with communities which experience high levels of deprivation, the College works with partners to create inclusive progression opportunities in a vibrant and sustainable environment for the learners, communities, and stakeholders which we serve.

The Head of Apprenticeships and Skills will be responsible for leading the Apprenticeship and Skills Team in the delivery of a high-quality support service to clients who wish to develop their workforce through vocational qualifications and industry training while carrying out the necessary associated contracting and compliance.

The role will focus on the management and growth of client relationships. You will maximise current business opportunities while seeking new areas of growth, working in close partnership with internal and external customers to manage apprenticeship funding strategies and maximising funding income.

We need you to be able to:

The position works in a wide area which covers establishing and sustaining relationships with existing and new clients, development of internal systems for managing vocational qualifications and Modern Apprenticeships.

You will also always be on the lookout for new business opportunities, managing the recruitment process for Modern Apprenticeships and ensuring that there is compliance with all contractual obligations between the College including Skills Development Scotland (SDS).

You will be leading the management of the SDS contract to expand the Modern Apprenticeships provision and ensuring that there is adherence to contractual and quality standards.

As the leader of the department, it will be your responsibility to manage and develop the staff that make up your team. This includes recruiting, inducting, coaching, recording of achievements and creating personal development plans with each team member.

You will be liaising with the Finance Department to agree annual budgets as well as collaborating with Faculty Directors and other departmental managers to establish effective operations and services.

The position also leads the tendering process for continued business, negotiating on all aspects of Apprenticeships and Skills contracts as well as representing the College on external committees and appropriate working groups.

We need you to demonstrate:

· Qualified to degree level (SCQF level 9) or equivalent and show evidence of Continuous Professional Development.

· Managing apprenticeship portfolios and the delivery of apprenticeships.

· Understanding the Building Services industry and their training needs.

· Understanding contracting procedures required for service delivery.

· Effective leadership and management skills.

· Strong coaching skills and the development of staff.

· To be able to plan effectively.

· To be able to deliver against targets and deadlines.

· Strong communication and negotiating skills.

· Have extensive commercial and quality compliance skills.

· There will be a requirement to travel across Scotland on a regular basis.
