TEACHER OF DRAMA - FULL-TIME, MATERNITY COVER

Robert Gordon's College is an HMC independent co-educational day school and nursery in the heart of Aberdeen with around 1500 pupils aged 3-18. Our pupils’ success is built on a strong sense of who they are, what they can achieve, and what it feels like to be part of a happy and purposeful school community.

The College is seeking an enthusiastic and innovative colleague to join our successful Drama Department which boasts first class resources and facilities. This is a maternity cover post which would be equally suitable for an experienced teacher or for a probationer teacher, but passion for the subject and the desire to inspire others are essential. This post offers the opportunity to work with high ability students in a supportive, friendly and forward-thinking environment. The successful candidate will be fully involved with the extensive co-curricular life of the department, will demonstrate a real enthusiasm for the subject and be capable of teaching across all key stages of Drama.

The successful candidate will be required to share responsibility for the teaching of Drama in the College with effect from August 2024 for one session. The successful candidate will be expected to teach Drama in both the Senior and Junior schools.

Drama is offered as a core subject from Nursery and at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher. The College has a purpose built Drama Studio in the Senior School and a Drama Teaching Room in the Junior School which opens out into a small auditorium and two further Drama teaching rooms. Our state-of-the-art Craig Centre for Performing Arts offers an outstanding venue for all types of performances.

The post entails a commitment to co-curricular Drama, and the successful candidate will be expected to promote Drama within the College, and organise lunchtime/after school Drama Clubs and a programme of public performances.

The successful candidate will have a sound knowledge of the Drama 3-18 Expressive Arts curriculum, National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher courses and will be expected to contribute to the development of Drama at the College through an ability to undertake successfully the following tasks:

  • To create an effective teaching and learning environment which offers support and encouragement to pupils
  • To be involved in developing teaching materials, planning courses and identifying departmental priorities
  • To maintain appropriate records of pupil performance and assessment
  • To contribute to curricular and co-curricular developments
  • To share responsibility with all colleagues for the maintenance of good discipline, behaviour and conduct among pupils
  • To show commitment and enthusiasm in working as part of the Creative Arts team

Applicants must be registered with GTCS or eligible for registration. All posts within the College are subject to our safeguarding requirements including a PVG check.

The salary for this post will be on SNCT national scales plus a Robert Gordon’s College allowance, currently 3% of salary.

Please apply via the recruitment area of our website or email your CV and covering letter to Ms F. Winter, HR Manager at recruitment@rgc.aberdeen.sch.uk. The closing date for applications is Tuesday 23 April 2024 at 4pm.
