ROBERT GORDON’S COLLEGE - TEACHER OF TECHNOLOGY:

PART TIME OR PROBATIONER

The post of Teacher of Technology at Robert Gordon’s College will become available from August 2024. This is an excellent opportunity for a probationer or qualified teacher to work with a dedicated team that encourages young people to be curious, innovative, and skilled through exploring real world opportunities for design and complex problem solving.

The Engineering, Design and Technology Department has three full-time and two part-time members of teaching staff, including the Head of Department and a Technology technician. The Department is housed on the ground floor of the Wood Foundation Centre for Science and Technology with four purpose built teaching rooms and ICT and teaching facilities, a Practical Craft room, a department base and extensive storage.

Technology is taught discretely as part of a common course in S1-S2. Pupils are presented in Graphic Communication and Engineering Science at National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher, and Higher Design & Manufacture is another course currently offered by the department.

The post reports to the Head of Department, Engineering, Design and Technology.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of Engineering, Design and Technology at the College through an ability to undertake successfully the following tasks:

 To create an effective teaching and learning environment which offers support and encouragement to pupils

 To be involved in developing teaching materials, planning courses and identifying departmental priorities

 To maintain appropriate records of pupil performance and assessment

 To demonstrate a good level of IT skill

 To contribute to curricular developments

 To share responsibility with all colleagues for the maintenance of good discipline, behaviour and conduct among pupils

 To show commitment and enthusiasm in working as part of the departmental team.

Salary will be based on SNCT scales together with the Robert Gordon’s Allowance which is currently 3%. Candidates will be expected to be willing to assist with extra-curricular activities and/or games, and to play a full part in the wider life of the school.
