The postholder will be based in our SSERC headquarters in Dunfermline. There will be an opportunity for the successful applicant to opt into the organisation’s hybrid working scheme. This will be subject to discussion with the successful candidate and will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The post holder will have responsibility for the ongoing development, delivery and management of the Young STEM Leader Programme (YSLP) in Scotland. They will directly line manage the Young STEM Leader Project Specialist and report to the Head of STEM Programmes. They will also lead a team of Associate Regional Trainers and Verifiers (known as ARTAVS: external consultants who serve as programme advocates across Scotland). The YSLP Programme Manager will also work directly with colleagues in the STEM Engagement Team and other staff teams at SSERC.
The role is a great opportunity to manage a national STEM Awards Programme for children and young people, shaping the continued success, growth and impact of YSLP and working with SSERC’s key partner organisations in education.

REQUIREMENTS & THE INDIVIDUAL
You will have a degree (SCQF Level 9 or above) in an appropriate subject area or equivalent work experience.
You will have experience of supporting a national or regional project within an educational, youth or community context.
You will have experience of partnership working and effective engagement and communication with partners/stakeholders.
You are willing to travel across Scotland + PVG Certificate (completed through SSERC on offer of position).
KEY TASKS
The Programme Manager will be responsible, with support, for:
- Work effectively and positively to lead the delivery of value and excellence in all aspects, aims and aspirations of the programme.
- Lead the ongoing delivery and upscale of the existing six levels of YSLP and report the progress to key stakeholders.
- Work with the Head of STEM Programmes to complete the development and pilot of SL7 (the SCQF Level 7 version of the programme) in academic year 23/24
- Take responsibility for the project and deliver results specifically relating to agreed targets and expectations as set out by the SSERC CEO, Head of STEM Programmes and as detailed in the Scottish Government Service Level Agreement, with the appropriate level of support.
- Continue to offer an impactful and flexible training programme to recruit new, and support existing delivering centres and their staff
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammatical knowledge and strong written ability.
- Support the immediate and broader staff members who work on/for YSLP, including the line management of the YSLP Project Specialist.
- Promote positive partner relationships and work collaboratively with all YSLP stakeholders, partners and participants
- Maintain a positive culture of work where the advice, support and contributions of others is respected and valued.
