St Philip’s School are recruiting for a Depute of Education to join our expanding Education service. St Philip’s School provides specialist Residential Care and Education to young people aged 10 – 18 years, who experience a range of additional support needs.
The Depute of Education will be a key member of the management team of St Philip’s Education Services and will have responsibility for the leadership of the multi-disciplinary team of professional staff delivering quality education and pastoral care, consistent with each young person’s needs, in line with National Priorities and the Curriculum for Excellence framework.
The Depute of Education will be accountable to the Senior Services Manager.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF: Depute of Education
· Responsibility for the leadership, good management, and strategic direction of a multi-disciplinary team of staff.
· Promote high expectations and standards through the provision of professional advice, reviewing professional needs and performance, and supporting continuous professional development of colleagues.
· Responsibility for leading the development and delivery of a curriculum designed to take account of the needs of young people across a twenty-four-hour period and beyond the academic year.
·Working alongside colleagues within residential care to ensure a cooperative partnership to achieve the best possible outcomes and future pathways for our young people.
·Take a lead role in the development, promotion and implementation of the school’s arrangements for Quality Assurance and School Improvement.
· Contribute to and promote the development of a positive school ethos.
·Contribute to the development, promotion and implementation of school policy and procedures in line with promoting positive relationships.
·Work in partnership with parents, carers, professionals and all agencies.
· Promote a commitment to inclusive education for all and recognise and respect the views of young people in line with UNCRC.
· Promoting and safeguarding the health, wellbeing and welfare of all young people within St Philip’s School.
· Assist senior managers and HR with the recruitment process for new staff.
· Lead and manage areas of collegiate training.
In addition, the Depute of Education will also have the duties and responsibilities of every teacher, including delivering lessons as and when required, and a duty to carry out other such tasks and responsibilities as designated by the Senior Services Manager.
The Key Tasks associated with these duties and responsibilities are as follows (this list is not exhaustive):
·Contribute to the development, promotion and implementation of national aims, priorities, policies, and practices including the production of the School Improvement Plan.
·Promote high staff morale, ensuring that staff work well together and make effective contributions to the work of the education service.
·Provide advice, support and guidance as required to promoted staff to enable their support for their teams’ delivering courses and programmes of work.
· Involve staff in the development of priorities, core purposes, values, policies and practices and in the production of development plans.
· Promote good communications within the team and with young people, parents, staff and external agencies.
·Ensure that new staff experience effective induction procedures.
·Manage administrative functions and resources within the team as and when required.
· Ensure that teachers have clear plans for effective delivery of courses and programmes of work.
·Ensure that teaching and learning approaches provide pupils with high quality learning experiences.
· Ensure that planning and learning and teaching strategies take account of the needs of individual pupils.
· Monitor and evaluate the overall effectiveness of staff.
·Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of learning and teaching in classrooms.
·Apply systems to track individual pupils’ progress, monitor progress and implement support strategies through collaborative practice.
·Ensure that all staff operate agreed school policies and procedures which protect pupils from harm, abuse and neglect, and understand their roles and responsibilities with regard to pupils’ health and safety.
·Promote awareness of child protection issues.
·Aid in the design and implementation of the planning and organisation of a range of approaches to develop pupils’ personal and social development, including special focus activities such as healthy lifestyle, anti-bullying, anti- racism, child sexual exploitation, consent, drugs abuse and safe use of the internet programmes.
Pre-Employment Medical Questionnaires will be undertaken prior to confirmation of employment. All convictions whether spent or unspent must be declared. These posts are regulated work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The successful candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. A confirmed offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
