Who are we?

www.starleyhall.co.uk

Starley Hall provides 52-week residential care and education placements for young people aged 10-18 years who present with emotional and/or social difficulties and can often be disengaged from all aspects of learning. The school also offers day pupil placements for a small number of young people.

We have an extensive, multi-disciplinary staff group that is experienced in working with vulnerable young people with complex Additional Support Needs, who may have attachment issues, have experienced complex trauma, or have other diagnoses including ADHD, ASD, and mild to moderate learning difficulties.

Our school and main residential provision and accommodation is situated near Burntisland, Fife in grounds which allow young people to experience the outdoors and participate in the life of neighbouring villages. There are two residential houses which offer up to 13 residential placements for males and females.

We have a further three residential houses in the local community which provide placements for young people attending our education provision, mainstream education or are in the process of moving to college or employment. This service is known as Starley Care Services.

Starley Hall received a joint inspection by Education Scotland and the Care Inspectorate in February 2020. Education Scotland highlighted the following strengths in our school:

· Very positive, caring relationships across care and education which support all young people to feel safe, cared for and included.

· The highly effective approaches to improving young people’s wellbeing. All staff work closely with parents and partners to ensure that each individual makes the best possible progress.

· The highly personalised approaches to learning and care planning, which build on young people’s strengths and interests.

· The wide range of opportunities, supported by a variety of community partners, which is supporting young people to attain and achieve very well.

Education Scotland provided the following evaluations:

· Learning, teaching and assessment: VERY GOOD

· Raising attainment and achievement: VERY GOOD

In addition, the Care Inspectorate evaluations were:

· How well do we support children and young people’s wellbeing? VERY GOOD

· How well is care and support planned? VERY GOOD

Our inspection reports may be read in their entirety on the Education Scotland website.

Who are we looking for?

We currently have a vacancy for an experienced, committed and creative teacher with the capacity to offer literacy and English both within the BGE and the Senior Phase up until National 3 and 4, and offer additionality across the curriculum. Within this, we would be interested in applications from both primary and secondary qualified teachers.

This teacher may also have key responsibility for a small number of young people. Our education team comprises a Head of Education, seven teaching staff, four Teaching Assistants, and visiting therapists for music, and relaxation therapies. We also employ sessional tutors as required.

Candidates need to have a sound, working knowledge of Curriculum for Excellence and knowledge and understanding of the SQA qualification framework, as well as routes for ‘wider achievement’. All candidates need to evidence the capacity to motivate and engage learners at all levels, presenting with a wide range of complex additional support needs through flexible, innovative and adaptive approaches.

Starley Hall is currently working towards achieving The National Nurturing School Award and we would therefore be particularly interested in candidates who have experience of working within a nurture group, or within a nurture base.

Successful candidates should be fully registered, or eligible for registration, with the GTC (Scotland).

All appointments are subject to a PVG scheme check and references, and a six-month probationary period.

Salaries are paid in accordance with the SNCT main grade scale (£32994 - £41412 per annum).
