Environmental and Sustainability Manager

Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL) owns vessels and harbour infrastructure necessary for vital ferry services serving many communities throughout Scotland. We have big ambitions to transform the ferry network in Scotland. Backed by a five- year £695 million investment plan from Scottish Government, our plans to upgrade and improve ferries and harbours are already well underway.

Due to continued organisational growth and setting of environmental targets, we are recruiting for the position of Environmental and Sustainability Manager to strengthen CMAL’s continuing commitment to current and evolving environmental matters. This position will support all of CMAL’S internal departments, whilst also being proactive with Scottish Government, Transport Scotland, ferry and harbour operators and communities around our geographical network.

The role The Environmental and Sustainability Manager will ensure that the organisation is operating in accordance with environmental guidelines and targets. The role will involve examining corporate activities to determine where improvements can be made and ensuring compliance with environmental legislation across the organisation both internally and externally.

Who are we looking for?

CMAL requires a motivated, professional, and diligent individual with a proactive and creative approach and the ability to work autonomously and flexibly. We are particularly looking for people with the following skills and attributes:

• Experience of working in the maritime and marine environment.

• Educated to degree level in an environmental discipline.

• 5 - years’ experience in an environmental role expected. • Membership of IEMA (Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment) or similar.

• Able to communicate effectively, consult and negotiate with people from varied disciplines.

• Possess good report writing skills.

• The ability to solve complex problems.

The work environment

Our head office is on the Clyde Estuary in Port Glasgow, which is the primary place of work. Our port infrastructure is spread across the west coast and the islands of Scotland. In addition, we have 37 vessels, 5 of which serve the Northern Isles service and 32 of which serve the Clyde and Hebridean services.

The primary responsibilities of the role will be undertaken during office hours of Monday to Friday, 08.30 – 17.00 at our Port Glasgow head office, but the ability to work flexible hours, travelling and staying overnight on the CMAL network and elsewhere is also required.
