Who are we?

Kibble is Scotland’s specialist provider of services for at risk children and young people. By providing a range of integrated services, we help build positive futures for children and young people aged 5 plus, with complex social, emotional and educational needs.

Job Purpose:

Through our primary, secondary and tertiary education, we aim to transform lives through learning. By offering the right subject choices, combined with a robust support network, we can inspire children and young people to enjoy learning and encourage them to achieve. Young people are referred to Kibble via local authorities when mainstream education has not been effective in meeting their needs. Many young people have experienced bullying, conflict, truancy, and/or low academic grades. Our aim is to reverse this pattern, providing an inspiring education programme, with supportive teaching, to help pupils achieve positive outcomes, while developing valuable life skills.

Working across Kibble’s Education Services, the Principal Teacher will be required to assist in the overall management and organisation of Kibble’s secondary English department.

Main Duties:

  • To have as a key area of focus, and line management responsibilities for Kibble’s secondary English department
  • To teach BGE and Senior Phase pupils in related subject area(s) in line with the Curriculum for Excellence and as directed by Education Managers / Head of Education
  • To coordinate and deliver National Qualifications and Wider Achievement Awards in related subject area(s) as directed by Education Managers / Head of Education
  • To promote responsible citizenship across Kibble’s education services
  • To manage and support staff within the schools / related subject area(s)
  • To encourage active methodology and a variety of learning and teaching styles amongst staff
  • To consult with and advise colleagues on forward planning, tracking & monitoring, record keeping and assessment
  • To promote home / school links including parental involvement
  • To resource and identify required resources for related subject area(s)
  • To promote and maintain good relationships with all Kibble staff, all users of the schools and the local and wider community
  • To liaise with staff and education management team on Education matters
  • Any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of Education

Qualifications and Experience

  • Related Graduate and Post-Graduate Qualifications in the field of English
  • Registered with the GTC (Scotland)
  • More than two years teaching experience
  • Demonstrating a clear commitment to continuing professional development, for example, as studying towards a qualification in or relating to additional support needs
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to motivate, encourage and support others
  • Previous experience of working with and leading others
  • Able to make effective use of time, personnel and resources
  • Ability to make decisions and act on own initiative

Safe Crisis Training (SCM)

Successful candidates will require a level of fitness to be able to carry out SCM. Please see note section below (4) for further information.

  3. The successful candidate will be subject to PVG Scheme Membership. Having previous convictions will not automatically disbar you from working at Kibble (with the exception of offences against children or other vulnerable groups) and every case is taken on an individual basis.
  4. The successful candidate will be required to undertake Safe Crisis Management (SCM) training and will require a level of fitness to be able to carry out SCM. The successful candidate must be able to participate fully in this training and be prepared to put this training into practice. The SCM training will consist of two days theory and two days physical training. The successful candidate must complete this training in full within four weeks of an agreed start date. Should the candidate for any reason fail any aspect of the SCM training (theory, physical or both parts), an additional two weeks will be given to pass.
  5. Appointments will be subject to a twelve-month probationary period.
