The NSPCC's purpose is to prevent child abuse and neglect of children across the UK and Channel Islands. We have been fighting for childhood for the last 130 years and our organisational strategy for 2021 – 2031 is enabling the NSPCC to achieve greater change for children and inspiring others to join us in the fight for childhood.

Within the Services directorate our direct services are delivered within 9 geographic areas which comprise 3 devolved nations and 6 English regions and include direct services to children and families, our offer to schools, our local campaigns, place-based initiatives known as ‘Together for Childhood', along with two major national helpline services (NSPCC Helpline and Childline).

We're currently developing our future local services offer as we want to meet the needs of children and young people, families, and professionals across the UK.

The NSPCC Schools Service is responsible for delivering Speak Out Stay Safe as well as services to staff, and parents. The service aims to deliver advice and support and raise awareness of what keeps children safe through a programme of visits to schools by staff and volunteers. It also aims to maximise income for the NSPCC from supporters and potential supporters through development and delivery of fundraising strategies and management of long-term supporter relationships.

​Job purpose​

  • To be responsible for the co-ordination and operational delivery of the schools offer within an agreed geographical area, working within the regional operating model.
  • To ensure that the NSPCC offer to schools, within an agreed local area is in line with local and national standards and guidelines.
  • To work with the regional Schools Manager to coordinate a volunteer model for a localised area.
  • To recruit, train and retain a team of local volunteers to deliver services to schools.
  • To be responsible for delivering agreed KPI's, targets and objectives within a local area; maximising our reach and offer for schools.
  • To represent the NSPCC Schools service in a range of settings.
  • To engage with a variety of key partners and stakeholders to maximise the reach and impact of our services.
  • To ensure that services delivered within a local area are compliant with all organisational safeguarding requirements and standards.
  • To be a member of the local services team and to actively contribute to workstreams and projects which drive and develop our offer into schools.

  • The post holder will be expected to represent the NSPCC to external audiences including the media.

​​Main duties and responsibilities​

  • To be responsible for the co-ordination and operational delivery of the schools offer in a local area; working to and achieving set targets and KPI's.
  • To lead a team of volunteers to deliver services to schools within a local area.
  • To be responsible for ensuring all recruitment and delivery meets with the organisations safeguarding policies and procedures; To be the point of contact for schools with safeguarding concerns and to be able to escalate safely and appropriately.
  • To ensure a high standard of delivery and quality assurance of services in a local area. Ensuring that service guidelines and policies are followed at all times.
  • To work with the regional Schools Manager to strategically plan all work with schools in a local area.
  • To secure and develop relationships with colleagues within the regional operating model to capitalise on opportunities to work together and maximise service reach.
  • To represent the NSPCC at external events and functions, including fundraising events and media activities.
  • To ensure that professional knowledge, expertise and learning is up to date and used to support the delivery and development of our services.
  • To contribute to working groups and development projects.
  • To work collaboratively with local and national colleagues; sharing learning and best practise across services to boost the reach and quality of our services, while ensuring local relevance and national significance.
  • To work flexibly and travel for meetings, inclusive of occasional overnight stays

​​Responsibilities for all Staff within the​ Services Directorate

  • To take personal responsibility for keeping up to date with and contributing to the development of best practice
  • Comply with all relevant NSPCC safeguarding policies
  • At all times to carry out the responsibilities of the post in a manner consistent with promoting equalities and diversity, and which demonstrates respect for children's rights.
  • To actively participate in regular department and team meetings, contributing to strategy, discussions and decisions.
  • To maintain an awareness of own and others' health and safety and comply with the NSPCC's Health and Safety policy and procedures and Information Security procedures.
  • Although core duties of the post are set out above, a flexible approach to work is essential. The post holder may be required to adapt the above duties to take account of changes in work practices. The post holder will be required to undertake business travel

​​Person specification​

  1. ​​Experience of delivering programmes and services within an educational, safeguarding or equivalent setting.
  2. ​Experience of working to set KPI's and objectives to achieve and exceed targets.
  3. ​Experience of all aspects of volunteer recruitment and management.
  4. ​A child-centred approach and understanding of children's rights and best interests.
  5. ​Experience of negotiating with and influencing stakeholders to achieve collective goals.
  6. ​Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences in a variety of situations
  7. ​Ability to use a range of IT systems and programmes (e.g. client database,

​email, Excel, and Word) to enable the post holder to fulfil their duties effectively.

  1. ​Highly developed planning skills and the ability to adapt and prioritise appropriately to achieve goals.
  2. ​Ability to manage both self and professional development using supervision, consultation and support where necessary
