We are recruiting a Film & Screen Educator - a key role within our organisation that will support the development, delivery and direction of shmu’s accredited film education and practical filmmaking programmes across North East Scotland.

No matter what your job is at shmu, everyone’s work is about the same thing – transforming the lives of individuals and communities across the North East. As a result of considerable investment, we are looking for an exceptional, passionate individual to join our team as Film & Screen Educator.

As our Film & Screen Educator, you will work as part of shmu’s Film & TV Team to support the design, delivery, moderation and assessment of a range of learning opportunities and training courses in screen education and practical filmmaking.

You will implement opportunities across our programmes in schools and in our target communities, ensuring that learning materials are designed and delivered to the highest standards and at the appropriate level to meet the needs of the learners. This will include the delivery of the NPA Film and Media (SCQF Level 6) qualification, and the Foundation Apprenticeship in Creative & Digital Media (Level 6).

The course content and sessions you deliver will be engaging, interactive and productive, supporting participants to use film as a creative outlet and as a tool for personal and/or collective expression. You will also capture evaluation of the impact of the programmes that you deliver for reporting requirements.

Through your passion for film, you will inspire young learners to explore the world of film, develop their creativity, and reach their full potential.

As an organisation, we passionately believe in supporting people to expand their horizons and achieve their full potential. Our approach, methods, projects and initiatives are nationally recognised, positioning us as a centre of excellence for the work we do.  This approach also applies to our staff team. We believe in supporting the members of our team to achieve their full potential and offer:

  • support to undertake relevant training and qualifications
  • regular support and supervision
  • flexible working hours and a TOIL system
  • initial paid holiday entitlement of 34 days (inclusive of any public/bank holidays which you may choose to request)
  • a company sick pay scheme, effective from the first day of employment
  • a stakeholder pension, with an annually reviewed employer contribution (currently 5%)
  • a hybrid/office occasional working model to allow for working from home.

We appreciate the importance of good mental health and wellbeing amongst our team and strive to provide a working environment which supports people to achieve this. We are also committed to supporting the wellbeing of all those who engage with our services - hear more about the impact of our work in this area here.
