Job Description

The Learning Disability service in Dundee is a joint Social Work and Health team providing a range of services to adults with a learning disability which include housing support, care at home, respite and day opportunities. Based at ​one of the Learning Disability Services within Dundee, you will work ​full time, ​37 hours per week. Requirements

You will hold SVQ3 or SVQ2, or an equivalent qualification relevant to the post, as recognised by Scottish Social Services Council, in addition to undertaking training and presenting for SVQ3 award. You will also have additional management qualification relevant to post, as recognised by Scottish Social Services Council, or willingness to undertake.

Responsibilities

You will assist in the day to day management of respite, day or community based services. You will be responsible for the allocation of work and the support and supervision of staff who work directly with service users. You will liaise with the Team Manager (Learning Disabilities) with regard to issues arising from the direct work with Service users. You will be responsible for the management of services in the absence of the Team Manager. You will ensure staff work within the National Health and Social Care Standards at all times and adhere to the SSSC Codes of Practice.

The Individual

You will have experience of working with people with a learning disability and experience as a team member. You will have the ability to work on own initiative. Good communication skills (written and oral), management, organisational and personal care skills and the ability to lead a team are also essential. You will be flexible, available at short notice and able to work away from home at night. You will have the ability to be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council within a specified time. This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Dundee City Council.
