Job Description

  • To ensure the quality, effectiveness and efficiency of the service provided by a number of social work staff through effective relational and motivational leadership and management.

 

  • To ensure the provision of robust staff support and supervision and a commitment to continuous professional development within the workforce.

 

  • To ensure effectively integrated delivery of services for children and families in the local area in collaboration with other statutory and voluntary bodies.

 

  • To assist in the transformational development of services for children and their families in Moray in line with The Promise.

Responsibilities

  • To ensure the provision of direction, guidance and assistance to colleagues in assessing need and managing risk, implementation and assessment of outcomes and to take a measured and proportionate response to risk that keeps children and their families at the centre of decision making.

 

  • To oversee and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of services to children and families to agreed service standards and which support the realisation of the Children’s Services plan and The Promise in practice.

 

  • To assess practice and development personnel needs within the team and be responsible for realising continuous improvement in services to children and families.

 

  • To lead on and assist in the continuous improvement of the service families are offered, based in the findings of The Promise and other national and local agendas and identify development needs across the service.

 

  • To support a relational culture across the service. 

The Individual

Considerable post qualifying experience in childcare.

Previous supervisory responsibilities working within a childcare area team or equivalent setting.

Experience in multi-agency working.

Assessing need and risk in child care practice.

CQSW or CSS or Dip SW and SSSC Registration

Provide purposeful leadership in chairing meetings in both team and multiagency environments.

Effective analytical and evaluative abilities and clear thinking.

Capacity to manage change.

An expansive professional outlook.

Working with a range of IT packages

Able to develop services and projects.

Able to consider services in structural and organisational terms.

Effective utilisation of financial and human resources.

A strong professional commitment to integrated working and the role of social work.

Effective chairing skills.

Sound knowledge of social work theory and research and an ability to:

(i)          relate this to practice

(ii)         promote the development of informed practice.

Able to liaise, plan and negotiate effectively at a senior level and across agency boundaries.

A commitment to deliver quality services to agreed standards.

Team player able to work as part of a management team

You will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the Service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a car/van.

Being available to staff

Capacity to make decisions under pressure.

Ability to form productive and enabling working relationships.

Ability to work with honesty and integrity, in line with SSSC codes of practice

Willingness to work outside office hours.

Ability to work in different offices and with different staff teams as a leader within their department dependent on service requirements
