Job Description
Reporting to the Head of Service, the role of the Social Work Service Manager is to manage, direct, support and guide services, including, Justice Services, Youth Justice (services for young people in justice/through care and aftercare services) and Out of Hours Social Work in Moray.
To ensure that services are responsive and of a high quality, outcomes focussed, reflecting social work and council policy and in accordance with National Standards, Statutory requirements and legislation.
Responsibilities
Contribute to the development and delivery of practice in relation to Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) and support staff in decision making and practice in relation to managing high risk offenders in the community.
To be an active member of the Practice Governance Board and contribute to the shaping of the social work profession and promote public understanding of the services provided by social work.
Represent the department at appropriate internal/external events and meetings, locally/nationally, in accordance with the remit and status of post.
In collaboration with the Head of Service and other senior managers, plan, develop, implement and evaluate strategies and policies in order to achieve local and national priorities.
Take responsibility and be accountable for the efficient deployment of all section resources, including staffing in the service.
Ensure the continuous improvement of all services within the remit of this role using a variety of audit, monitoring, quality and performance improvement methods.
Hold service wide responsibilities for the development of key areas of service activity that are indicated through national policy, including Restorative Justice and The Promise.
Advancing the Whole Systems Approach in Moray by ensuring effective integration of youth justice as a priority area into children service's planning and wider Community Planning, including Community Justice.
The Individual
Extensive post qualifying experience working in social work including Justice, Children and Families, and Youth Social Work.
Experience of managing social work services within a local authority.
Budget Management.
Evidenced track record of successful inter-agency partnerships in social work or related services.
You must hold a qualification in Social Work (degree, post graduate diploma or equivalent).
Registration with appropriate professional body e.g. SSSC and evidence of continuing professional development.
Developing and sustaining effective work relationships with colleagues, individuals using services and other stakeholders.
Ensuring effective management and performance through planning, coaching and mentoring.
Ability to promote improvements in practice through leadership of staff.
Demonstrate personal commitment to achieving Social Work Objectives.
Maintaining balance between competing demands and seeking to meet needs/ expectations within available resources.
Balancing the operational management demands with the longer term requirements for strategic planning and service development.
