North Lanarkshire Council (NLC) are looking for an enthusiastic Local Studies & Archives Assistant to join the Records, Archives and Local Studies Team based between Airdrie Library and North Lanarkshire Heritage Centre, Motherwell.
The successful applicant will be responsible for enabling access to local and family history research resources, supporting visitors in the use of photocopiers, microfilm readers and web resources and providing a research and enquiry service, particularly relating to genealogy, for customers. They may be asked to deliver workshops or presentations and they will be expected to supervise the reading rooms as well as list and catalogue resources.
Applicants should have demonstrable experience in a local studies or archive environment; be able to communicate effectively; have strong research and information retrieval skills and excellent customer care skills. They should also be self-motivated, be able to work on their own and be able to prioritise workloads effectively.
Some lifting carrying and working with rolling stacks is involved and the successful applicant will need to be aware of Health and Safety requirements.
Applicants should be able to travel to venues within North Lanarkshire according to service requirements.
Work Pattern - Wednesday 10am to 4.30pm, Thursday 9.30am to 4.30pm and Friday 10am to 4.30pm, 30min unpaid break each day.
This post is temporary to cover a maternity leave until 23rd May 2024.
