Job Description

Housing Assistant

Opportunities exist across some of our teams for Housing Assistant posts to support the delivery of our operational housing services to tenants, homeless people and other customers.

As a Housing Assistant you will be responsible for working as part of a team to support the delivery of services across a range of housing activities including:-

carrying out home visits and interviewing customers within an office,

house allocations - maintaining the Council’s housing waiting list, processing applications, and providing housing advice and information,

dealing with void (empty) houses, making selections for prospective tenants, and carrying out viewings,

monitoring and managing rent arrears, dealing with rent and arrears enquiries, and providing advice and support to tenants,

dealing with tenancy management related functions, processing applications and service requests and responding to enquiries from tenants and other customers,

engaging with tenants and supporting work to maximise access to properties to carry out landlord compliance activities to achieve tenant and resident safety,

carry out activities to support the Council’s housing capital investment programme and deal with front line enquiries from tenants and owner-occupiers.

Depending on the team, posts will either be ‘office workers’ or ‘hybrid workers’.  As part of the work pattern, team members within our Housing Revenue, Arrears and Support Team are required to work one evening each fortnight until 7pm.

Previous experience within a housing management or homelessness environment would be beneficial but is not essential.

If you are organised, have good administrative and communication skills, experience of using Microsoft Teams, Word and Excel, have experience of dealing with customers and are committed to providing high quality services, we are keen to hear from you.

Extra Information:

The Grade of these posts are Grade 2 / Level 5; the hourly rate is from £13.76 to £14.85 and the annual salary is from £25,112 to £27,101.

Work pattern: Monday - Thursday - 8.45am - 4.45pm & Friday 8.45am - 4.00pm.

Post holders in the Housing Revenue, Arrears & Support Team are required to work one evening in each fortnight until 7pm.

This post is considered to be Regulated Work with children as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) (PVG) Act 2007. Accordingly the preferred candidate will be required to become a member of the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update if already a Scheme member, prior to any formal offer of employment being made.
