Job Description

West Dunbartonshire Council is a small Central Belt Local Authority stretching from Loch Lomond in the North and West to Glasgow in the East. While geographically compact, in recent years the Council has demonstrated its determination to physically transform its housing, town centres and former industrial landscape with a series of ambitious projects, including the sector leading Water Source District Heating project at Queens Quay Clydebank.

We are looking to recruit a Manager of Legal Services to lead a full service Legal Team, which provides comprehensive legal advice, representation, support, governance and regulation covering the full range of Council services.

As the role also involves leading the delivery of the Council’s Licensing and Trading Standards functions and overseeing Records Management, Freedom of Information and Data Protection compliance, as well as contributing to the delivery of key capital and regeneration projects, we are looking for an outstanding individual who as well as having excellent relevant experience and knowledge, is also adaptable, energetic and committed to providing quality support to Elected Members, our Colleagues and the Community. You will be able to demonstrate relevant skills, experience, and knowledge specified in the role profile.

While not essential, experience of project management, delivery of complex project / contract documentation and demonstrable negotiation skills would be an advantage.Under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989, which introduced restrictions on some posts on the basis of one or more defined criteria, your post has been deemed "politically restricted".

The preferred candidate will be required to complete a Standard Disclosure check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.

Responsibilities
