This is a role which supports ELC, Primary and Secondary schools across West Lothian with a base currently in Inveralmond Community High School.

The Deaf Education Service in West Lothian supports learners across the authority with a variety of hearing impairments across ELC, Primary and Secondary as part of the Education Support Services. The principal teacher will assist the line manager to develop, implement, monitor and review effective learning and teaching policies and procedures within the service to enable the school to deliver the highest quality of education for all pupils. They will ensure, by being a model of good practice and through the continuous implementation of quality assurance procedures that high standards of attainment and achievement are met. The principal teacher will support the team and work collegiately to ensure positive outcomes.

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge

The post holder will have significant relevant experience as a teacher who has achieved the very highest standards. S/he must have a sound knowledge of current national curricular developments and teaching and learning theory and practice. The post holder must evidence a clear ability to implement and evaluate such methodology through self-evaluation and quality assurance.

The post holder must be able to demonstrate his/her leadership ability. The post holder must have good management, liaison, communication/interpersonal and presentational skills. They must also have a professional commitment to maximising pupil progress, achievement and attainment.

A relevant teaching qualification and registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland is essential.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.
