Job Summary

We seek a dynamic and creative individual to lead on high quality media production within our Communications and Marketing Department. There is a growing demand for impactful digital content for use in communication and marketing campaigns, social media, our website and more. You will set the standard and will lead on delivering the University strategy for video production, using it to elevate awareness of our offering and engage with our stakeholders.

You will be strategic and proactive in your approach, able to work independently with confidence in developing strong and productive professional connections at a range of levels, from students to members of the University’s Executive.

You will possess the ability to prioritise and manage expectations while often working on multiple projects simultaneously.

You will focus on continuous improvement of how we manage and organise our media assets, understanding trends, testing new communication channels and implementing processes.

You will have an excellent knowledge of accessibility, copyright and GDPR regulations in relation to marketing and communications as well as excellent technical knowledge and experience of working with packages such as Premiere Pro, After Effects and Photoshop.

You will have an ability to analyse and report on the effectiveness of videos and other media used in campaigns while understanding how to optimise materials for different purposes to maximise their impact.

Salary on first appointment is normally to the bottom of the scale, although in exceptional circumstances an appointment further up the scale may be considered.

The post will be based at RGU's Garthdee Campus in Aberdeen, and in keeping with RGU's commitment to work/life balance you may have the opportunity to work from home for a portion of the working week.

Job Description

RESPONSIBLE TO: Digital Content Manager

RESPONSIBLE FOR: No formal line management, but supervision of others on a project basis

PURPOSE OF POST: To lead on the production and management of engaging and impactful creative media content for the purpose of strategic marketing and communications.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

• Develop and implement a creative media strategy, initially with a focus on video.

• Optimising awareness of university study options, research, services and initiatives through appropriate creative media.

• Filming, animating and editing high quality and impactful videos for use in marketing and communications campaigns.

• Prioritisation of tasks and management of workflow relating to creative media production within the department.

• Overarching responsibility for decentralised media creators.

• Lead the implementation and maintenance of guidance and procedures designed to maximise the impact of videos created by staff at RGU.

• Lead on and ensuring compliance with accessibility, copyright and GDPR compliance regulations and guidelines in relation to video and photography for marketing communications.

• Management of the university YouTube channel, including optimisation of videos in search engines.

• Providing training and advice to colleagues for creating videos and related media for marketing and communications purposes, as well as for using software tools and equipment.

• Lead implementation of effective and user-friendly ways to manage video and other media assets.

• Proactively gather and organise relevant raw footage and photography from on and off campus events for use in future videos.

• Establish and maintain a network of contacts who have responsibility for video or related digital content as part of their roles.

• Analysis and reporting of effectiveness of media used in marketing and communications campaigns.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications and Professional Memberships

• First degree in a related subject or equivalent or evidenced appropriate work

Knowledge

• Expert in use of video and media software such as Premier Pro

• Expert in use of video cameras and associated equipment

• Understanding of best practice and regulations relating to media used in marketing and communications

Experience

• Filming and editing high quality videos for commercial purposes

• Producing graphics, animation and photography

• Organising and managing media assets

• Analysis and measurement of video

• Substantial experience in a creative communications and marketing role

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge

• Understanding of a range of media software such as Photoshop and After Effects

Experience

• Line management or supervisory experience

• Management of a YouTube channel and/or related social media profiles
