Job Summary
The University's facilities have undergone major transformation within the last ten years, bringing a new level of service to the local community, staff and students. Estates and Property Services is the largest support service within RGU, with approximately 200 staff involved in the day to day management and development of the University.
As a Janitor you will expected to work effectively with and without supervision, ensuring the highest levels of customer service and required Health and Safety standards are met across our facilities. Your duties will include minor maintenance repairs, cleaning, security and room set up. You'll need experience of delivering a quality service in a customer focussed environment, a helpful attitude and a good grounding in admin/IT.
You will be required to work a shift pattern between the hours of 7am and 7pm, 5 days out of 7 (including weekends). Average hours will be 35 hours per week. Operations change during University vacations therefore some adjustments to hours may be required on occasion.
A uniform is worn while on duty.

Job Description
RESPONSIBLE TO: Supervisor - Janitorial Services
RESPONSIBLE FOR: No Line Management responsibilities
PURPOSE OF THE POST: Undertake a range of facilities-related services, ensuring the highest levels of customer service and relevant required Health and Safety standards are met. The post will focus on general janitorial duties including minor maintenance repairs, cleaning, security, room set up, etc. Post holders are expected to work effectively both with and without supervision.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Customer Services
Point of contact for customers, staff and students, including answering telephones, mobile and radio calls from reception for information/services
Make a positive impression and have a “can do” attitude with customers, colleagues and managers
Liaise with other building users to ensure a high quality of service is provided
Co-operate with and support others in the team and help to resolve issues
Share information and encourage others to participate in joint tasks
Health and Safety & Compliance
Ensure all tasks undertaken comply with Health and Safety and University requirements
Ensure weekly/monthly checks on all equipment are completed and faults reported to the Supervisor (JS)
Undertake regular fire alarm and fire panel checks to ensure equipment is functioning correctly Deal with “emergency situations” that may arise, e.g. building evacuations, fire alarm activations, etc
Undertake monitoring of fire panel including daily fire panel checks, weekly tests of alarm system, checking fire fighting equipment, recording findings and reporting any faults/failures to the Supervisor-Janitorial Services
Implement University procedures and practices in Fire Safety, Health and Safety, COSHH, First Aid, and all other relevant safety procedures, including information is correctly recorded
Security & Service Delivery
Ensure the general security of the premises, locking/unlocking external doors as required, ensuring buildings are vacated and secured
Ensure emergency exits are appropriately secured and that corridors and stairwells are free of obstructions' opening and locking up buildings or parts of buildings as required
Issuing and collecting keys, if required.
Undertake general lifting/carrying duties, including movement of furniture, office removals /transportation of large items
Process documentation in a timeous manner to ensure compliance with University operating procedures (attendance, inventory and timesheets etc)
General cleaning duties
Assist with the delivery of mail/packages as required
Ensure materials and equipment are utilised safely and efficiently
Undertake stock checks
Play an active role in the delivery of special events eg induction, open days, graduation ceremonies etc
Provide services in response to projects and internal/external activities
Set out rooms for meetings, events, conferences, examinations etc. internally and external locations
Carry out minor maintenance work
Participate in local energy saving initiatives
Dispose of refuse and re-cycled materials, cleaning receptacles as required
Miscellaneous
Undertake any relevant training necessary to the position
Drive University vehicles when required
Any other duties as required
