We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic person to join our dynamic team at Gray's School of Art. You will offer well developed technical skills in Textiles print and dye and will primarily be responsible for the efficient operation of the two printed textiles workshops, equipment and associated processes and techniques.
You will provide support services to the School for the creation of art & design work. Liaising with teaching staff will allow you to support the delivery of projects through demonstration of textiles printing processes and skills that align with the delivery of studio projects.
We are seeking a committed team worker, with some supervision experience, who understands the specific requirements and culture of technical services within contemporary art and design education.

Job Description
RESPONSIBLE TO: Technical Services Co-ordinator
RESPONSIBLE FOR: No supervisory responsibility
PURPOSE OF POST: The Technical Services Officer – Textiles: Print & Dye will provide technical expertise to staff and students across a range of courses and ensure associated workshops are managed efficiently and safely.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Provide a day-to-day technical textiles support service to students and staff within the school.
- Prepare workshops, associated equipment and materials for classes to ensure that they are both tidy and clean prior to, and after use.
- Supervision and instruction of staff and students in the use of equipment and materials.
- Demonstrate correct use of equipment, processes and techniques within the associated workshops.
- Provide technical advice on materials, processes and techniques.
- Instruct in good and safe working practices and procedures to comply with health and safety regulations.
- Conduct first line maintenance of workshop equipment and ensure facilities are clean and tidy prior to and after use.
- Undertake maintenance and repair of specialized textiles screens.
- Procure consumables for operation of equipment/facilities and materials for student use.
- Prepare and distribute materials, monitor and replenish stock as necessary.
- Maintain effective supervisory control over students in the workshop. Support and promote learning for groups and individuals with diverse needs and abilities.
- Ensure technical documentation is maintained, including COSHH records and assessments.
- Undertake special projects and fulfil other duties as may reasonably be required by the school.
- Assist with construction of degree shows and other school exhibitions as needed, this includes manual handling.
Person Specification
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications and Professional Memberships
HND or above in a related discipline.
Knowledge
Advanced knowledge of textiles printing and dying processes including both analogue equipment for fabric and digital packages, including but not limited to AVA, Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud.
Experience
Preparation and use of materials; and printing
Operation and maintenance of workshops and equipment contained within.
Effective supervision of groups

Degree in a related discipline.
Knowledge
Textiles in an art school environment with multiple contexts.
Experience
Experience working in a higher education or textiles print based environment.
Technical support in a fine art and design focused environment
Experience in repairing and maintaining printing screens.
Technical support/demonstration for further or higher education.
