Join a Team of Passionate People Transforming Lives Across the North East

No matter what your job is at shmu, everyone’s work is about the same thing – transforming the lives of individuals and communities across North East Scotland. We are looking for an exceptional, empowering, community minded individual to join our team as a Wellbeing Practitioner - a brand new post which will play a pivotal role in supporting the wellbeing of all adults involved in our programmes across our organisation.

We passionately believe in supporting people to expand their horizons and achieve their full potential. Our approach, methods, projects and initiatives are nationally recognised, positioning us as a centre of excellence for the work we do.

Our organisation would not exist if it was not for our dedicated volunteers (over 150), primarily from across the regeneration areas of the city, who generously and enthusiastically commit their time and effort to giving back to their communities.  Since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, our volunteers have continued to show true commitment and resilience, however, over the last 2 years and as we come out of the pandemic, many of our volunteers are continuing to struggle, and mental health concerns are rising and becoming a wider issue across our services – requiring us to dedicate more resource and expertise to deal with the issues as they arise.

Having successfully applied to the ACVO – Community Mental Health & Wellbeing Fund, we now have the resources to recruit a full-time Wellbeing Practitioner – a dedicated member of staff to enhance and develop our volunteer mental health and wellbeing practices. The post-holder will be a key resource to all volunteers accessing shmu, but also to the wider local community and community partners, as part of the role involves support and promotion of wellbeing across our key communities of interest (primarily the regeneration areas of Aberdeen and other vulnerable and disadvantaged communities of interest across the North East); using our community media platforms to share essential wellbeing information, advice and guidance, and where to access support, but also to promote and give a voice to personal stories and journeys, tackling stigma and raising awareness of mental health and wellbeing.
